What I Am Thankful For This Thanksgiving Holiday…And Everyday
What I Will Be Most Thankful For This Year Is God’s Unconditional Love…
God has been really dealing with me about understanding His love. When you spend years being hurt and disappointed by people who say “I love you” it’s easy to project that same conditional, “strings attached” type of love onto God.
But we should never make that mistake. It holds us back from our destiny.
God’s love for us is UNCONDITIONAL. There are NO STRINGS attached. HE loves you when you are great and when you are not so great. When you succeed and when you fail.
You don’t have to DO something “good” to earn God’s love. And He will not withhold His love when you do something contrary to His will.
It is arrogant for us to believe that we could do anything to “deserve” God’s love. We could never DO anything greater than what Christ did on the cross.
And it is through Christ that we have been made heirs to the promises of God- not through our church attendance, axillary service, or what we put in a collection plate.
All of the things that we “do” should not be in an attempt to “deserve” God’s favor, but rather because we love God and are thankful to Him. When we live life trying to “deserve” the promises we will fail (miserably).
Not only that, we will place ourselves in a positions that God never intended for us to be in- saviors, redeemers, and judges. We try to be so “good” and “do” so much that we inadvertently, through “works”, discount Jesus.
Thereby trying to save ourselves and redeem ourselves. Which is impossible. To make matters worse, we then project this mentality on to others and become judges of one another.
If the enemy can get you to believe that God is angry with you or doesn’t love you because of something you have done, then he has succeeded in deceiving you into believing that you do not deserve to receive God’s promises.
…but you do, because of Jesus. It’s not that we deserve it. It’s that we are heirs and entitled to the promises through Christ-by faith.
Our “good” works do not make God love us more. Nor do our “bad” works make Him love us less.
This is a deception used by the enemy. He deceives us into believing that God will not be there for us because we have not been “good enough” or that we are experiencing tough times because God no longer loves us.
These are all lies. When we do wrong, we separate ourselves from God loves because we are deceived into believing that we no longer deserve it.
Not so.
Christ lives in you- God’s love lives in you. And that love is there for you no matter what. Just like a parent would never stop loving a child. God will never stop loving you.
Stop thinking you need to “deserve” God’s love. Through Christ, you ALREADY have God’s love. Receive it. God sees you through the righteousness of His son Jesus, not through your own righteousness-if there is such a thing (smile).
There is no way you can feel Gods love that strongly and want to live in sin. God’s love is a light and that light will not be overshadowed by darkness.
Out of a grateful heart we give our lives to Him and we long for “the words of our mouth and the meditation of our hearts to be acceptable in His sight.”
God’s unconditional love is not a “I-can-do-wrong-and-get-off-scott-free-card”…When we TRULY receive God’s love and it begins to overflow in our hearts, we WILL desire to live a life that pleases God.
There is no way you can be enveloped in Gods love and want to live in sin. God’s love is a light and that light will not be overshadowed by darkness. Out of a thankful heart we give our lives to Him and we long for “the words of our mouth and the meditation of our hearts to be acceptable in His sight.”
Now that’s good news! And definitely something that I will remember to be thankful for on November 24th and everyday!
